Mezzo-soprano Janet Smith has enjoyed an extensive career as an oratorio and recital soloist, especially noted for her musically sensitive and intelligent interpretations. Smith has appeared across the country with the Indianapolis, Utah, Spokane and Oklahoma Symphonies, as well as the Pacific Chorale, L.A. Master Chorale, El Paso Pro Musica, San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, Anchorage Mozart Festival and others. She has toured the United States with the Los Angeles Vocal Arts Ensemble and has been a guest soloist with various groups on European tours as well. Her opera credits include The Marriage of Figaro, Suor Angelica, The Medium, H.M.S. Pinafore and Albert Herring. Her movie credits include The Big Fix with Richard Dreyfus and recordings include 3 major albums - Brahms, Rossini and Sondheim - with the Los Angeles Vocal Arts Ensemble. Smith is a frequent lecturer and adjudicator and has presented numerous master classes in vocal technique and repertoire. She has been a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing for over 40 years and has served on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Chapter as Secretary, Membership Chair, Parliamentarian, President and, currently, Director. She has taught at the university level for over 45 years at the University of Oklahoma, Chapman University, Pepperdine University and CSUF. A part of the School of Music at CSUFullerton for the past 25 years, Smith teaches voice and diction, and recently retired after 21 years as co-director of the Opera Theatre program. She also has a private studio in Tustin, CA.
