Emily Thebaut, DMA, is a singer and voice teacher based in Los Angeles. Emily currently teaches both musical theater and classical voice at Scripps College in Claremont, CA, and recently directed UC Irvine’s Spring opera production. Emily is also the Executive Director of Los Angeles based non-profit, The Opera Buffs, Inc. and Co-Founder of Los Angeles based non-profit, New Opera West.  Emily holds a doctoral degree in Vocal Arts from the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, where she was a teaching assistant and President of the student chapter of the National Association of Teacher’s of Singing (SNATS). Prior to moving to Los Angeles, Emily taught voice and piano in the Bay Area for 6 years and created and ran a non-profit pop-up opera troupe, Opera on the Spot.

Passionate about working with living composers and singing contemporary works, Emily's most recent performance engagements have included the role of Bethel in Tony Solitro’s She’s Fabulous, premiering the role of Olivia in new opera, Turbulent Mirror by Celka Ojakangas and recording Mark Weiser’s new opera, Galaxies. Recently, Emily has produced immersive virtual opera productions including Pepito, by Nicolas Lell Benavides, an animated opera short, as well as a virtual production of Argento’s “Mrs. Manners on Music,” and Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appetit. Emily completed her Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and her undergraduate degree from Oberlin Conservatory.   Emily has also studied with the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, Oberlin in Italy and Opera Festival du Roma.
